Was reassigned to Hofn (H-3) in March 1968 from Hopedale, Labrador. Had about 9 months remaining on my 1 year overseas. We ended up living in Guest Barracks on right as you entered the radar site. Was on crew with Sgt. Hundredmark and a few others. Hundredmark and I ended up in the Homestead FL training USAFR radar airborne operators as DOD civilian employees holding USAFR enlisted rank. We returned to Iceland later in the mid 70's flying with the Reserve on the EC-121's chasing Ruskies off Iceland. This was because the AWACS was not coming on line promptly due to problems and the USAF had poorly planned the phase out of the 552AEWC Wing in Sacramento.
I consider my days at Hofn, Iceland as a great learning experience and the airmen, officers, seamen, civilians and Icelandics were of the highest professionalism. Fond memories of those days.

Followup Message: I asked if he was planning on attending the USAFRSI Reunion in Dayton this year.
Joe:
Thanks for all you are doing for the site and H3. I do not believe I can make it this year. Paul Hundredmark who was there with me for about 4-6 months is seriously thinking of attending along with Peter Robinson. Pete, Paul and I flew as radar crewmembers on the Connies there with the USAF Reserve out of Homestead, FL in the mid 70’s for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. So, I and Paul are double bangers...H3 and EC-121 Airborne Radar as well. Paul and I may be a rare duo...there may be others out there. That would be a good question to raise on the website. Who served on ground at one of the radar sites and then returned to do airborne in the Connie AEWC or the AWACS. You could call that group a special name. Did time in the air and on the ground.
