One of our most favorite things to see was our C-47 arriving.  It brought fresh food, Mail, and REPLACEMENTS!  A crew always went out to the Hofn airstrip to greet the plane.  There was even a specially equipped pickup truck that carried a fire extinguisher "just in case".

We don't have a picture of the "Purple K" truck but the garbage truck was used to haul supplies in and to act as the "Ground Control" since, sometimes, we had to force the local sheep off of the runway!  There were even a few times when the pilot might have to buzz "The Strip" to help convince the sheep that they had some other place they wanted to go.

This was a very welcome thing to see when you were heading back to the States.  It meant you were on the first leg of your long journey back.  Of course if you were just arriving, it was the last link you had to try to leave Hofn.

This was the plane that brought new troops to serve at Hofn.  The first view they had of the area in which they were to serve a year (or more sometimes in the case of the Navy folks) was this landscape.

We sometimes shared the strip with the FluFlagg (spelling ?) aircraft.  It was Iceland's local air carrier
